Canopy does not sell, share, or use your data for advertising. We collect only what is needed to show you nearby events.
Who we are
Canopy is developed and operated by Incept5 Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). If you have questions about this policy, contact us at lili.martin@incept5.com.
What we collect
- Location (optional). If you grant permission, we use your device's approximate location to find events near you. Your coordinates are sent to our server with each request but are not stored permanently. Alternatively, you can select a city manually without granting location access.
- Device token. If you enable notifications, Apple provides a push notification token. We store this to send you daily event alerts and Friday weekend roundups.
- Preferences. Your chosen search radius, event type filters, and notification settings are stored locally on your device and synced to our server to personalise your notifications.
- Device identifier. We use Apple's vendor identifier to associate your notification preferences with your device. This identifier is not shared with third parties.
What we do NOT collect
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Browsing history, contacts, photos, or any other personal data
- Analytics or tracking data
- Advertising identifiers
Device permissions
- Location (optional). Used to find events near you. You can use the app without it by selecting a city instead.
- Notifications (optional). Used to send daily event alerts and weekend roundups. You can toggle these on or off in Settings.
- Calendar (optional). If you choose to add an event to your calendar, we request write-only access to create a calendar entry. We do not read or access any existing calendar data.
How we use your data
- To show you events near your location or chosen city
- To send push notifications you have opted into
- To remember your preferences between sessions
- To create calendar entries when you request it
Third-party services
Canopy does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Our backend runs on infrastructure provided by Eve Horizon (hosting) and Supabase (database). These providers process data on our behalf and do not use it for their own purposes.
Data storage and security
Your preferences are stored locally on your device using UserDefaults and shared via App Groups with the Canopy widget. Server-side data (device tokens and notification preferences) is stored in a PostgreSQL database with encryption at rest. All communication between the app and our server uses HTTPS.
Data retention
Device tokens and notification preferences are retained for as long as you have the app installed. If you uninstall the app or disable notifications, your device token will naturally expire and be removed from our system within 30 days.
Your rights
You can:
- Revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings
- Disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings
- Request deletion of your data by contacting us at lili.martin@incept5.com
Children's privacy
Canopy is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of any changes.
